Randolph ISD Open Institute on Writing Across the Curriculum

Presented by The San Antonio Writing Project “Teachers Teaching Teachers”

July 26-30: 9:00-3:30

This institute will focus on issues that are of critical concern in the classroom such as developing viewing and representing skills, promoting writing in K-12 classrooms, assuring social equity in a diverse classroom, and discovering ways to promote writing across the curriculum.

Goals:
Help teachers understand best practices in teaching writing. Develop activities that work across the curriculum and across grade levels. Explore writing-to-learn strategies. Enhance the “community of learners” concept. Encourage tri-district collaboration through this week of collegial sharing.

Activities:
Special Demonstrations by San Antonio Writing Project Teacher Consultants:

Navigating the Digital Landscape; 21st Century Research Skills:
Honor Moorman, Teacher and Internship Coordinator, The International School of the Americas; Adjunct Faculty, Department of Education, Trinity University; Associate Editor,Voices from the Middle, NCTE School Journal; Teacher Consultant, San Antonio Writing Project.

ABC’s Across the Curriculum:
Nora Gonzales, Ft. Sam Houston School District, Elementary School Teacher; Teacher Consultant, San Antonio Writing Project .

Writing to Learn:
Lennie Irvin, Co-Director, San Antonio Writing Project; Instructor, San Antonio College; Doctoral Candidate, Texas Tech University.

Diane Gonzales Bertrand:
Author of novels, young adult literature, and children’s bilingual books; Writer in Residence and Professor, St. Mary’s Univ.
