Summer 2009 Open Institute Opportunities
An Open Institute focusing on Writing Across the Curriculum and English Language Learners This Open Institute will engage teachers in the essentials of teaching writing, with a special focus on teaching English Language Learners. Topics covered by the institute include the writing process; writing workshop; writing across the curriculum, integrating writing, reading, and content areas; and evaluating writing. In addition, participants will write themselves, share their writing, and read scholarship and relevant research about teaching writing, particularly teaching ELL writers. Teacher Consultants of the San Antonio Writing Project will also present teaching demonstrations of successful writing lessons used in the classroom. Institute Leader: Nora Gonzalez, SAWP Teacher Consultant and Teacher from Ft. Sam Houston Independent School District Who Can Participate? Teachers from any grade or discipline, 1st through College, who wish to learn more about the practice of teaching writing, especially how to teach English Language Learners Tuition/Cost: Free. This Open Institute is being sponsored by The San Antonio Writing Project.
